Beetles

Hi all! Mark your calendars for May 12th @ 2:00 PM. We are scheduled to have a Vidyo Conference with Dr. Pearson (Arizona State University) on Beetles!

We touched on this topic a little bit but never dived in - so, here we go! Get ready to jump in with Beetles!

The Zoom Gallery at Ask a Biologist is an awesome resource for kids to see up close and personal with beetles! I encourage everyone to check it out - it is intriguing!

On another note - I never knew that the Praying Mantis was more powerful than a beetle! Interesting!!!

Trading Cards

Here are a few that were created today! We are planning to share them with Frostwood Elementary and also with our friends, Dr. Pearson & Dr. Kazelik with Arizona State University!

I'm so proud of these kids for: find a picture to use; typing their description in Microsoft Word; Pasting their information & uploading it to www.bighugelabs.com; saving their trading card; and finally adding them into an attachment to email to me! My class is so clever and SMART!

Vidyo Conference

Today went very well! The kids had SO much fun and learned so much! I plan to post the videos over the weekend - so stay tuned!

Bird Beak & Bird Feet

I found this on the internet. It has some great pictures that can help kids identify the different types of beaks and feet that their bird has!

You can also visit the website at: http://ci.santa-rosa.ca.us/doclib/documents/JuniorBirdlist.pdf

Two very cool things that I wanted to share....

I saw this on the news last night about how you can create your own floral arrangement. I gave it a try and will post a picture as soon as I can!

I clipped these out of our courtyard!!!

Then, last week, this aired. I thought it was such a great idea - especially since we are looking for ways to help children eat healthier and make great choices! I so wish we could do something like this in our district!

Vidyo Conference with Arizona State University

Today had to be one of the most amazing days of my life! I have never experimented with so much technology, going on simultaneously, in my life before! I want to applaud my class for being the COOLEST and for being so "easy go lucky". Ya ll were outstanding.

Here are a few clips that I was able to capture from the video conference:

What do you know about the American Goldfinch?

What is the Wingspan of the Red Tailed Hawk?

How many species of birds are there in the world?

What is the flight pattern of the Bald Eagle?

Tell me about the Bald Eagle's Wings...
